About the Artist

Beautiful writing has always captivated Chris, even at an early age. In junior high school she drew the letters for the school magazine and penned the Ten Commandments, which were reproduced and distributed to all county schools. Her high school senior theme was "Illuminated Manuscripts."

Chris graduated from Hood College with a major in art and studied further at George Washington University and Syracuse University. She spent many years editing the Hood College alumni magazine and then worked on the Development Division at Hood.

Her second career began in 1992 with her first of many calligraphy classes with Sheila Waters. Chris went on to take lessons from many teachers at workshops and international conferences too numerous to mention. Her calligraphy has been a constant endeavor, and she has organized the Washington Calligrapher's Guild workshops for five years.

Chris produces many creative works in addition to teaching calligraphy at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts. She lives in Hagerstown, Maryland with her husband, two German Shepherds, and three cats.
